Kyphosis, a rounded upper back

Kyphosis

Kyphosis is a rounding of the upper back that makes the shoulders curve forward and the head sit ahead of the body. Everyone has a gentle curve there, but kyphosis is when it becomes too pronounced.

This matters because a strong forward curve can bring back pain, stiffness and, in older adults, harder breathing. In some people it is linked to weak bones or years of poor posture.

Physiotherapy cannot undo changes already set in the bone. Our physiotherapist works to slow further rounding, ease pain and keep the back as mobile as possible. We teach strengthening for the upper back, gentle stretching for the chest, and posture habits for daily life.
