What osteoporosis is
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is when the bones become thinner and more fragile than they should be. The inside of the bone loses density, so it breaks more easily.
It often has no symptoms until a bone breaks, sometimes from a minor knock or fall. The hip, wrist and spine are common sites.
This matters because a fragile bone can fracture from a small fall, which then limits movement and independence.
Physiotherapy does not thicken the bone; that side is managed by a doctor with medicine and diet. What physiotherapy can do is lower the chance of a fall and support safe activity.
At home our physiotherapist works on balance, leg strength and safe movement, and helps make the living space safer. Weight-bearing exercise, done correctly, also supports bone health over time.
