What a fracture is
Fracture
A fracture is a broken bone. It can be a thin crack or a full break, and it often happens from a fall, an accident or a knock.
Signs are pain, swelling, bruising and trouble using the part. The bone may need a cast, a brace or surgery to hold it while it heals.
This matters because the injured limb is often rested for weeks, which leaves it stiff and weak.
Physiotherapy does not set or heal the bone; that is done by the medical team. What it does is help you recover movement and strength once healing is underway.
At home, and only when the doctor allows loading, our physiotherapist rebuilds the joint’s movement, muscle strength and safe walking. Early, guided activity helps the limb return to normal use without setting back the healing bone.
