What ultrasound therapy is

Ultrasound therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves that you cannot hear, passed into the tissue through a small handheld head. It is different from the ultrasound scan used to take pictures.

The sound waves create gentle warmth and movement in the tissue, which some physiotherapists use for certain soft tissue problems.

This matters because people often ask about it, and it helps to know what it can realistically offer.

Ultrasound therapy does not fix the problem on its own, and evidence for it is mixed. It is best seen as a possible small helper, not the main treatment.

At home our physiotherapist relies mainly on assessment, exercise and hands-on care, which do the real work of recovery. Where a passive treatment like this may help, we explain it honestly and keep the focus on active rehabilitation.
