Transfer, moving safely between seats

Transfer

A transfer is moving a person from one surface to another, such as bed to chair, or chair to wheelchair. It sounds simple, but it is where many falls and strains happen.

This matters for both the patient and the caregiver. A poor lift can hurt the helper’s back, and a slip can injure the patient. Good technique protects them both.

Our physiotherapist teaches a safe method that suits the person’s strength and the home layout. We show the caregiver where to stand, how to guide, and when to use a belt or a mobility aid. We practise until the move feels smooth and secure.
