Stretching, lengthening tight muscles
Stretching
Stretching is gently lengthening a muscle to keep it supple and comfortable. Held slowly and without pain, it helps a tight muscle relax and a joint move more fully.
This matters because muscles can shorten after a stroke, an injury, or long periods of not moving. Left tight, they can pull a joint out of position over time.
Our physiotherapist stretches the muscles that most need it, slowly and within comfort. We teach the caregiver a few safe stretches to do daily, so tightness does not build up between visits. Done gently and often, stretching keeps movement easier for the person.
