What sarcopenia is

Sarcopenia

Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle that can come with age. Over the years, muscles slowly shrink and weaken if they are not used enough.

Signs are less strength, a slower walk, trouble rising from a chair, and getting tired more easily.

This matters because weak muscles raise the risk of falls, and make daily tasks like standing and climbing stairs harder.

Sarcopenia is not a disease to be reversed, but it can be slowed and often partly reversed with the right activity.

At home our physiotherapist builds a safe strengthening plan suited to the person’s ability. We work on the legs, the core and standing up, so the person keeps the strength to move, stay steady and live independently for longer.
