Pressure sore, a wound from lying still

Pressure sore

A pressure sore, sometimes called a bed sore, is a skin wound that forms when one part of the body presses on a surface for too long. The skin over the hips, heels and lower back is most at risk.

This matters because sores are painful, slow to heal, and can become serious. They are far easier to prevent than to treat.

Our physiotherapist teaches regular position changes, safe turning in bed, and how to relieve pressure on high risk areas. We show the caregiver what warning signs on the skin to watch for each day, so small marks are caught before they break down.
