Joint mobilisation, freeing a stiff joint

Joint mobilisation

Joint mobilisation is a hands on technique where the physiotherapist gently moves a joint through small, controlled movements. The aim is to ease stiffness and restore smoother motion.

This matters because a joint that has been still for a while can become tight and painful. Gentle mobilisation can reduce that stiffness so the person can move with less effort.

Our physiotherapist works within the joint’s safe range and stops well short of pain. Mobilisation is followed by exercise, so the person keeps the freer movement through their own daily practice. The two together give a longer lasting result.
