What a hospital bed is

Hospital bed

A hospital bed is an adjustable care bed that can raise the head, the legs and the whole bed height. It is used at home for someone who spends a lot of time in bed.

The adjustments make it easier to sit up, change position and be cared for safely.

This matters because the right bed protects the skin, makes breathing and eating more comfortable, and saves the caregiver’s back.

A hospital bed is a supportive tool, not a treatment. Used well, it helps keep the person moving rather than lying flat all day.

At home our physiotherapist uses the bed’s adjustments to help the person sit up, move and start early exercise safely. We teach the caregiver good positioning and safe transfers, so time in bed supports recovery instead of adding stiffness.
