What a hip replacement is
Total hip replacement
A total hip replacement is surgery to replace a worn hip joint with an artificial one. It is often done for severe arthritis or after a hip fracture.
The surgeon replaces the ball and socket of the hip, so it can move smoothly and carry weight without the old pain.
This matters because the first weeks after surgery need safe movement and some precautions to protect the new hip.
Physiotherapy guides this recovery closely. It does not replace the surgery, but it helps you use the new hip well and avoid harmful positions.
At home our physiotherapist works on standing, walking with a frame or stick, and the muscles around the hip. We also teach safe ways to sit, dress and get in and out of bed, so daily life returns steadily and safely.
