Proprioception, the body's sense of position
Proprioception
Proprioception is the body’s built in sense of where its parts are, even with the eyes closed. It is how you can touch your nose or climb stairs without watching your feet.
This matters because a stroke or injury can dull this sense. When the body is unsure where a limb is, balance suffers and falls become more likely.
Our physiotherapist uses targeted exercises to sharpen this sense, such as controlled standing and guided limb movements. Better body awareness makes walking, standing and turning safer at home, and we build the practice into daily tasks the person already does.
