Neuroplasticity, the brain relearning
Neuroplasticity
Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to form new connections. After a stroke or injury, healthy parts of the brain can slowly take over tasks the damaged part once did.
This matters because it is the reason recovery is possible. With the right practice, a person can regain movement and skills over time, even months after the event.
The brain relearns best through repeated, meaningful practice. Our physiotherapist gives the person the right exercises to repeat, and shows the caregiver how to keep that practice going between visits. Real daily tasks make the practice stick better than random movement.
