Foot drop, trouble lifting the foot

Foot drop

Foot drop is when a person struggles to lift the front of the foot. The toes drag or catch on the floor, which makes tripping more likely.

This matters because it raises the risk of falls and makes walking tiring. People often lift the whole leg higher to clear the foot, which wears them out quickly.

Our physiotherapist strengthens the muscles that lift the foot and retrains a safe step. We may suggest a simple ankle support and teach a walking pattern that keeps the toes clear of the ground. Practice at home helps the new pattern become natural.
