Electrical stimulation, mild pulses for muscles
Electrical stimulation
Electrical stimulation is a treatment that sends mild electrical pulses through pads on the skin. Depending on the setting, the pulses can make a weak muscle contract or help dull pain.
This matters when a muscle has become very weak, such as after a stroke or nerve injury, and needs a prompt to work while strength returns. It is a support to exercise, not a replacement for it.
Our physiotherapist decides whether it suits the person and the goal, since it is not right for everyone. We use it alongside active exercise, set it at a comfortable level, and always keep the person moving toward doing more on their own.
