Active assisted exercise, moving with help
Active assisted exercise
Active assisted exercise sits between passive and active work. The person does as much of the movement as they can, and the therapist or a helper adds just enough support to complete it.
This matters when a muscle is starting to work again but is still too weak to move the limb on its own. The person builds strength and control by taking part, rather than having the limb moved for them.
Our physiotherapist judges how much help to give and slowly gives less as the person grows stronger. We teach the caregiver how to support the movement safely, so this useful practice can carry on between our visits.
