Active exercise, moving on your own

Active exercise

Active exercise is when the person moves their own arm, leg or body using their own muscles. It is a sign that strength and control are returning.

This matters because using a muscle is how it grows stronger. Each active movement also helps the brain relearn control after a stroke or injury, which is why we build it in early.

Our physiotherapist chooses movements at the right level, not too easy and not too hard. We add gentle resistance as the person improves, and set simple home tasks to keep the muscles working between visits. The person gains both strength and confidence.
