Hemiplegia, weakness on one side

Hemiplegia

Hemiplegia is paralysis or severe weakness affecting one side of the body. It often follows a stroke that damages one side of the brain.

This matters because everyday tasks become one sided. Dressing, standing and walking all need new ways to work around the weaker arm and leg, and the family often takes on more help.

Our physiotherapist works to wake up movement on the weaker side, protect the shoulder and joints, and teach safe ways to move. We also guide the caregiver on how to help without doing everything for the person, so recovery keeps moving forward.
