Hemiparesis, partial weakness one side
Hemiparesis
Hemiparesis is partial weakness on one side of the body. Unlike hemiplegia, some movement remains, but the arm or leg feels weak and less reliable.
This matters because the person can often still move, so there is much to build on. With practice, that partly working side can grow stronger and steadier over time.
Our physiotherapist grades exercises to challenge the weaker side without overloading it. We focus on the movements the person needs most, such as gripping, standing and walking, and set home practice to keep the gains. The caregiver learns how to support without taking over.
