Bradykinesia, slowed movement

Bradykinesia

Bradykinesia means slowness of movement. Actions take longer to start and to finish, steps grow small, and everyday movements like buttoning a shirt become slow and effortful. It is a core sign of Parkinson’s disease.

This matters because slowness makes daily tasks tiring and can raise the risk of falls when walking becomes shuffling.

Physiotherapy does not change the disease itself, and it works alongside a doctor’s care. Our physiotherapist uses big, deliberate movements, rhythm and cues, such as counting or a beat, to help movement start and stay larger. We build a home routine and coach the caregiver, so the person keeps moving with more ease.
