Rollator, a wheeled frame with a seat

Rollator

A rollator is a walking frame on wheels, fitted with hand brakes and often a seat. Because it rolls, the person pushes it along rather than lifting it with each step.

This suits someone who can walk a fair distance but tires easily or needs steadying. The seat lets them rest along the way, and the brakes give control on slopes or when stopping.

Our physiotherapist checks that a rollator fits the person’s strength and balance, since a wheeled frame is not safe for everyone. We set the height, teach safe braking and turning, and practise using it in the home and the places the person walks each day.
